Ending AIDS and other priority communicable diseases (TB, STIs, hepatitis) requires meaningful engagement of Indigenous communities, inclusive public health responses and differentiated culturally pertinent approaches. Indigenous peoples systematically experience discrimination, exclusion, social and health inequities in a context of historical and ongoing colonization processes. This satellite presents current evidence of burden of diseases in indigenous peoples in the Americas and addresses the need to engender a research culture within indigenous communities, and improve information, including on epidemic drivers and social determinants. Representatives from Indigenous organizations will discuss and propose strategies to advance HIV/STI combination prevention and sexual and reproductive health services in Indigenous communities, including from the perspective of sexuality, gender diversity and key populations; and to expand access to rapid testing with effective linkage and retention in culturally sensitive and acceptable comprehensive services, with integrated approach to HIV/STIs, TB and hepatitis and ensuring synergy with traditional medicine.
